Series date:
01/01/2024 - 6:30am to 12/31/2024 - 8:30am

COURSE DIRECTOR
Jeffrey W. Britton, M.D.

DESCRIPTION
The conferences are case-based.  In each case discussed, the individual patient's history, EEG data, neuroimaging, neuropsychologic evaluations are presented and an individualized surgical plan and proposal provided at the end.  The audience then participates in discussion regarding the relative merits of the proposed intervention, and offer suggestions for modifications.  In some cases, a need for further work-up or non-surgical treatment options are identified.  Input provided by participants is always evidence-based, and relevant articles are distributed during and following presentations where appropriate to enhance knowledge among participants.

TARGET AUDIENCE
Medical neurologists (staff, residents, fellows), Neurosurgeons, Neuropsychologists, and Neuroradiologists involved in the care of persons with epilepsy of all ages.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Detect lesions on neuroimaging likely to be relevant as component of seizure onset zone.
  • Identify EEG findings indicative of favorable and those of unfavorable prospects for good outcome from epilepsy surgical interventions.
  • Detect clinical features from history and analysis of seizure behaviors (semiology) suggestive of seizure onset localization.
  • Select appropriate neuromodulation options for individual patients with drug resistant epilepsy.
  • Select most appropriate intracranial monitoring plan for epilepsy surgery patients.
