Learning Objectives:
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Summarize the effects of acute and chronic exercise on the autonomic nervous system
- Review the theory and evidence supporting exercise in autonomic disorders and in disorders of reduced orthostatic tolerance such as POTS
- Recognize post-exertional malaise
- Contrast the above with the effects and evidence for exercise in chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and discuss controversies in the literature
- Describe the benefits of exercise and recommend appropriate exercise therapies to patients
