  • Define COPD exacerbations. 

  • Describe why mortality depends on how we address COPD exacerbations. 

  • Distinguish the right patient with the right treatment. 

  • Recognize that transition of care starts from admission, even in critically ill patients. 

  • Assess novel approaches to reduce mortality after hospital discharge.
