TITLE:  Boarding and Crowding: A Complicated and Stubborn Quality Issue

Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize why hospital-wide operation issues lead to crowding.
  • Identify strategies that have been found to help with crowding.
  • State how the U.S. system for paying for healthcare creates incentives that contribute to boarding and crowding.
