Hospital Medicine Simulation-Based Boot Camp 2.0 for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants 2024 is a one-day course designed for Mayo Clinic nurse practitioners and physician assistants that have completed Boot Camp 1.0 and are interested in expanding their medical knowledge. This course further explores acute medical conditions that are complex and common among hospitalized patients. Content is delivered by the use of simulation based learning and didactic formats through interactive discussions. It is meant to be fun and full of practical information to help NPPAs be successful in their practice caring for acutely ill hospitalized patients.
Course Prerequisites
Participants should have taken the Boot Camp 1.0 course prior to Boot Camp 2.0.
Target Audience
This course is designed for Mayo Clinic nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Assess for signs and symptoms of commonly encountered medical problems occurring in the acute hospital setting.
- Select appropriate tests to order when considering common medical conditions.
- Identify how to treat hospitalized patients using the most current evidence-based practices.
- Recognize various forms of workplace violence.
- Interpret the results of common laboratory and radiographic tests.
- Identify de-escalation techniques that can be used to ensure staff and patient safety.
