The Bi-State Infectious Disease Conference was developed in 1996 as a collaborative effort of the local APIC Chapter 73, public health departments and school nurses in the Missouri and Illinois bi-state area.

The annual conference is designed to provide continuing education for healthcare professionals from Missouri and Illinois. It provides the most current information for disease intervention, detection, prevention, control and preparedness pertaining to infectious disease in order to provide optimal healthcare to our patients and to our community.

Target Audience

Designed for public health personnel, family physicians, generalists, hospitalists, infectious disease specialists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, infection preventionists, correctional nurses, school nurses and dental assistants.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Review evidence-based infectious disease research related to public health initiatives.
  • Examine expanded capabilities of the Missouri state laboratory in diagnosing infectious diseases.
  • Identify key characteristics associated with culture-negative TB.
  • Identify diagnostic challenges associated with culture-negative TB.
  • Outline case management strategies presented through a tuberculosis (TB) case study.
  • Examine current research on alpha-gal syndrome.
  • Review updates to the reportable list of healthcare associated infections (HAI).
  • Recognize challenges associated with the management of multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs).
  • Evaluate strategies for eliminating hospital-acquired infections (HAIs).
